As ADM, an electricity distribution company, we have been hosting white storks passing through our service area (Aydin, Denizli and Mugla provinces) by building nests on top of the transmission towers within the area since 2009.

All the story has started with a discovery at the Avsar neighborhood, the Soke district, the Aydin province, that there was a huge population of storks who tried to build nests on the top of the transmission towers by themselves. We have realized that some storks got injured & dead due to electric shock while building their nests and we have decided to help them build their nests to prevent injuries. Our engineers have built private living platforms for storks and mounted them onto the transmission towers. Also, they have isolated these platforms from electricity to prevent deaths and injuries due to electric shock.
Moreover, we have always created our investment agenda by considering the migration seasons of the storks. We have included and executed all the efforts to move the transmission lines to the underground as part of our investment plans to isolate the storks and their nests from electricity completely.
Furthermore, we have periodically cleaned up these nests and checked & repaired their electricity isolators.

- At the beginning of every migration season, we have coordinated with the Biology Department of the Ege University and the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association to count the adult & baby storks as well as their nests. At this stage, we have also supported the treatment & rehabilitation of those injured.
- Other partners included: Regional Directorates of Forestry, academicians from the Ege University, environment organizations and locals.
- Our staff has periodically checked the nests built, repairs them accordingly. They also have cleaned off waste from them.
- Our engineers have also periodically checked if the electricity isolators were functional on each private living platform.
- The local (in Aydin, Denizli and Mugla) and the national press have talked about our project at every migration season.
