Groundbreakers, ALI’s official internal magazine, was created with the objective to further strengthen ALI’s values among employees and enable them to incorporate these into ALI’s the day-to-day operations. Groundbreakers inspires the team to be closer in spirit and learn more about the organization. Recently, it shifted from print to digital, thereby expanding readership and reach exponentially from 400 to ~2,500 readers. The theme for 2022 was RECOVER, given that 2021 saw us gradually adapting to new norms. In order to create more meaningful content for readers, Groundbreakers team reached out to ALI employees to identify the year’s milestones, and to nominate stories about ALI members that will inspire hope and fuel creativity and action. Visual art was used to inspire the team with stories of triumph over adversity. The triptych artwork helped expand the visual world of Groundbreakers into three distinct panels, with each illustrated chapter exploring stories of perseverance, courage and heart. Within the first day of release, online usage of the e-magazine was measured at 19,092 request counts. Based on an informal survey conducted amongst internal audiences, 100% of respondents either ‘strongly agreed’ or ‘agreed’ that Groundbreakers effectively captured the spirit and values of the organization.
