Company Description: Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas) was established in 1979 to process associated gas from Bahrain's oil field into marketable products (Propane, Butane and Naptha and supply residue gas for local industrial use) managed by 80% local work force. Banagas is operating three Central Gas Plants (CGP): CGP-I (75%-government/12.5% Chevron/12.5% Boubyan) CGP-II and CGP-III (both 100%-government)

Bahrain National Gas Company (BANAGAS) was a major step in Bahrain Government’s determination to use valuable natural resources effectively by processing associated gas extracted from Bahrain oil field into marketable products and eliminate venting of gases into atmosphere. It employs 687 people with 80% Bahraini nationals and provides substantial contribution to the country's economy. The plant facilities were officially inaugurated in December 1979 and first shipment was made in early 1980.

BANAGAS processes 670 MMSCFD of Associated gas and Refinery off gas at three Trains (Train-I, II & III) of Central Gas Plant (CGP) and markets extracted hydrocarbon liquids (Propane, Butane and Naphtha). Propane and Butane produced from all 3 trains are refrigerated and exported worldwide. Naphtha is transferred to BAPCO refinery for storage and onward export.

In its more 42 years of operation, BANAGAS culture and core values have flourished with its focus on visible and proactive leadership that encourages open communication, team work, innovation, respect, recognition and rewards in all aspects of the Company’s operation. As of May 2021, the Company achieved over 7,094,183 man-hours without a lost time accident since 5th August 2014 and all employees were rewarded for this achievement.

-Successful third party migration audit from OHSAS18001:2007 to ISO45001:2018 and re-certification audit against ISO14001:2015.
-Received Merit in International Safety Award” (2019/2020/2021) and “International Awards Over-all Winner-Kingdom of Bahrain/2021” from British Safety Council-UK; “Commended in Oil & Gas Industry Sector Award” from RoSPA-UK; and 1st Place & 2nd Place in Division-I International Safety Award, “Perfect Record Award/2021”; “6 Million Work-Hours Award/2021” from Gas Processors Association-USA. Chief Executive Dr. Mohamed Alkhalifa selected as ”Ambassador of RoSPA International Awards/2019” which is not only a tribute to Banagas but also the whole Bahrain industryreaffriming the high level in the field of safety.
-No lost-time accidents experienced while performing major/minor shutdowns.
-Implemented and completed Process Safety Management system (PSM).
-Vocational Disease program was upgraded as health surveillance program covering employee pre-medical checkup, routine medical check-ups and assessment of abnormal cases.
-Created Covid-19 Working Team to plan/respond/manage the impact of Covid-19 mitigating risks of employees and Company.
-Health/Safety daily checking all employees during pandemic through temperature checking, mandatory inspection of vaccination status/certificates and daily rapid swab tests (random).
-Calling/Checking condition of employees with positive/suspected/direct/close contact cases and providing assistance.
-Banagas sponsors and participates in most SHE events in the country and in the GCC.
-Banagas currently is in the process to form the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) HSE Association with all major oil/gas companies along with all manufacturing and petrochemical companies.

Banagassignificant aspects which are uniqueeven during middle of pandemic are:

-Safe man-hours is outcome of employees and management commitment and joint efforts towards the company’s zero lost time accident goal.
-Continuous OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards certification since 2011 and successful migration from old to new standard confirms continual improvement and compliance to international standards.
-International safety and health awards from prestigious organizations proved company’s commitment to excellent health and safety standards and provided credible external endorsement.
-Completion of major/minor shutdown without lost-time accident is always challenging considering process complexity, contractor involvement and work pressure. However, BANAGAS has accomplished this through employees/contractor competency and well planning.
-The company is implementing PSM to strengthen existing processes and to prevent unwanted releases of hazardous chemicals.
-Health surveillance program is helping in ensuring control measures effectiveness and early detection of negative health effects. No recorded health illness due to occupational exposure.
-The Covid-19 Working Team will ensure that the Covid protocol and guidelines are properly implemented that can protect and help the welfare of the employees.
-The daily checking, vaccination and rapid tests will minimize the spread of Covid infection among employees.
-Calling employees with active or close contact cases help them lessens the mental and emotional stress during quarantine period.
-Sponsorship and active participation of the company in SHE events and occasions shows how proactive and highly committed Banagas is.
-The GCC HSE Association will provide a path of HSE unity among the companies in the GCC countries.
