Branding is both a tricky and important subject to get your head around. A brand is a company’s most important intangible asset. It can be described as the ‘personality’ of the business and is responsible for evoking a complex set of emotional responses in current - and potential - customers. But what makes a brand? What are the essential qualities that brands need to embody? And, in the ‘digital age’ why is branding so important?

This lesson, particularly beneficial for strategic marketers and leaders, defines what a brand is and considers the core components of a brand in the digital age. We outline the essential qualities that all successful brands must embody, including the use of storytelling, authenticity and relevance, and explore the metrics a business can use to measure a brand’s effectiveness. Case studies are used throughout allowing learners to see how the application of theory can be translated into tangible results.
