The Outdoor Seating Area Guideline is produced in accordance to Dubai Municipality strategic goal “City Growth- Sustainable Urban Planning for Dubai Future”. The Guideline was published in 2020 to increase awareness and familiarize restaurant owners and governmental entities within Dubai city with planning standards and regulations for outdoor seating areas to provide acceptable dimensions for café access and for public right of ways, sidewalk café barrier and encourage the use of durable and high quality outdoor furnishings and materials to increase the safety and comfort for residents and use the sidewalks adjacent to their stores and Dubai municipality parcels for the usage of outdoor seating area. The diagrams in this document illustrate acceptable and unacceptable sidewalk café furnishing.

The aim of this guideline is to provide an appropriate environment for the public, preserve the urban aspect of the emirate by organizing the outdoor seating areas for restaurants and cafes and setting standards and regulations that are consistent with the planning policies in the emirate.
