Sarah Thapa is an entrepreneur, award-winning immigration lawyer and Managing Director of The Migration Agency (TMA), an Australian immigration firm supporting businesses and individuals seeking quality migration solutions. She founded the company to grow a practice led by a vision and purpose, to truly make an impactful difference. While many in the immigration space struggled to adapt to global mobility restrictions, Sarah co-founded a global recruitment business in June 2020, placing more than 100 international allied health professionals in critical roles in Australia. Many of these roles service the most vulnerable community members – children and the elderly. As a global talent management specialist with expertise in international talent sourcing, recruitment, immigration and mobility, success was achieved through the addition of Global Talent Agency. With expertise in law, migration and the inclusion of a talent recruitment to form Global Talent Management Specialist group as a complementary business, the work accomplished in 2021 improved the Australian economy by meeting critical needs during a serious shortage of qualified allied health professionals. With the borders closed, this innovative solution saw the development of an inclusive solution to source talent unavailable in the numbers required in Australia. The Migration Agency supports the initiatives of FONA by donating 10% of our profits plus human skill and time. That support has contributed to a school for 350 young people to be open, allowing them to stay and thrive in their local community without sacrificing education opportunities.
When COVID hit in March 2020, the borders closed and we anticipated going into complete hibernation, however, once we identified a way to serve our nation, we found ourselves very busy. The Migration Agency recognised the need for allied health professionals, which had been dire, was now critical during the COVID period. Families were on waitlists to get rehabilitation care, special needs care, and specialised paediatric care. One of the local businesses in this space had 50 families on their waitlist to see a speech therapist. The Migration Agency positioned itself quickly as the specialists in this space, which has boosted the economy and reduced very long waitlists for specialised healthcare. Sarah presented at ARCS Summit Nov 2021, which was about building skills and capacity for the medical technologies, biotechnologies and pharmaceuticals sector, which is critical to the Australian economy, to our future health and to look after people in our country.
TMA lead an initiative for the Australian Government’s Global Talent Attraction Taskforce to promote the Global Talent Program to peak bodies and organisations in the health and life sciences sector. A new Remote Teams business was created to help companies source and hire talent anywhere in the world, remotely. This is part of us building out our end-to-end solution offering to clients.
TMA's commitment is to make a difference by assisting Australian businesses to secure overseas talent, and for that reason, my work extends past the boardroom as Director. It also includes Sarah's role as co-founder of the charity Friends of Nepal Association (FONA), founded in response to the Nepal earthquakes. The charity plays an important role in connecting local Nepal communities to some of the brightest global minds. They have recently completed building an Education Centre of Excellence, able to provide education to more than 350 young people a year.
TMA has expanded into the Philippines, India and South Africa over the past 12 months. Sarah speaks regularly to industries including tech, health and life sciences to provide education on immigration, global mobility and strategies for boosting teams with highly-skilled international talent through industry articles, webinars and consultations.
