Sustainability Strategy and Gender Equality

Sabancı Group’s sustainability approach, embraced throughout the entire organization, helps it deliver long-term shared value for its stakeholders.In line with the main Sabancı of New Generation vision, the Group created aSustainability Roadmapin 2020.

In this Roadmap, "Gender Equity" is one of the focus areas to guide the sustainability transformation of Sabancı Group companies.

Sabancı is aware that women should have equal rights, opportunities and possibilities for sustainable economic growth and balanced social development. In Global Gender Gap Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Turkey ranks 136th in women’s participation in the labor force and equal opportunity and 130th in the gender gap indices. It is an important responsibility for business world in Turkey to change this bleak picture for achieving equality. Closing the gender gap is a requirement for a successful business environment and social development.

Sabancı signed theUnited Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles Declarationand became the first signatory from Turkey. Sabancı tries its best to promote gender equality awareness for all employees, increase women’s participation in labor force, support them throughout their careers, and become a pioneer and exemplary in this regard.

In order to close the gender gap at all Sabancı companies, Sabancı offers employees equal opportunities starting from recruitment process and actively take advantage of the potential brought by equality and diversity.

Sabancı lights the way and inspires Turkish economy running many strategic projects on gender equity and Women Empowerment by Sabancı Group Companies. Just 2 examples of inspiring women empowerment project are stated here, please see the attached file for other projects.

Business Against Domestic Violance (BADV) Project:

Sabancı Holding designs and supports the Business Against Domestic Violence (BADV) project which is carried out under the main sponsorship of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). It aims to identify methods to prevent domestic violence by using executive and organizational capabilities of the business world and establishes support mechanisms in workplaces in this regard, making the problem of violence against women more visible.

Gender Equality Training

Sabancı provides Gender Equity training to all 40,000employees, which are working especially on man-dominated industries.

The program includes online trainings to raise awareness on gender equality. Topics of online trainings included: “Concepts and Definitions,” “Education and Gender Equality,” “Business and Gender Equality,” “Violence Against Women” and “Forced and Early Marriage.”

Sabancı Group became one of the leading companies in gender equity and women empowerment in Turkey.

- Sabancı Group, in terms of theratio of female employees, is above Turkey's average, parallel to the equivalent companies in Europe. As of the end-2020, Sabancı Group has provided employment opportunity to more than60 thousand people.30% of employeesand38% of managersarewomen. This is an exemplary success for the country, especially considering that most of the Sabancı Group's fields of activity are in sectors with male workforce.

- Teknosa isthe first technology retail companyin Turkey to participatesigning the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs),by UN Global Compact and UN Women, committing to 7 principles for creating company policies that will advance gender equality.

-Sabancı Group won the “Gender Equality Special Award” at TİSK Corporate Social Responsibility Awards which aims to raise awareness on corporate social responsibility and encourage companies to support important social issues.
