Trigo was founded in 2018 by brothers Michael and Daniel Gabay. Trigo is a technology company that builds AI-powered infrastructure for retail stores, utilizing the latest computer vision and machine learning technologies to transform existing supermarkets into efficient, fully autonomous digital superstores. We enable brick-and-mortar grocery retailers to integrate the efficiencies and data of digital commerce into the physical world, feeding new insights into their core capabilities. Within a year, Trigo raised $7M in seed funding from Hetz and Vertex Ventures, and a $22M Series A led by Red Dot Ventures. We also signed agreements with the UK’s largest grocery retailer - Tesco - including a pilot in the works, one of Germany’s largest grocery retailers - REWE - and Israel’s largest grocery retailer - Shufersal. By the end of 2020, we raised a $60M Series B, led by 83North and included Tesco, as well as signed agreements with some of the biggest discount grocers, Aldi Nord and Netto Marken-Discount. In 2021, Trigo raised another $10M from REWE and Viola - this was the year frictionless checkout became a household name; we opened three Trigo-powered stores within 3 months and secured contracts for hundreds of stores in the coming years.

  4. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the organization's achievements since the beginning of 2020 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

    Total 226 words used.

Today, Trigo’s system is being implemented in some of the world’s leading retailers’ stores to provide a frictionless shopping experience and automate their operations. In 2020, Trigo launched its first pilot store with the UK’s largest grocery retailer, Tesco. The following year saw significant expansion of our tech across Europe. First, Tesco opened its second store, a fully autonomous store in the heart of London on High Holborn Street. We also expanded into Germany, partnering with supermarket giants REWE and Netto Marken-Discount, of the Edeka group, to open hybrid stores in Cologne and Munich, respectively, giving shoppers the option between a frictionless or traditional experience. In January 2022, we signed an agreement with Wakefern Food Corp to adopt our technology for an autonomous supermarket pilot, marking the first step in Trigo’s plans to expand into the US market. At the time of writing, we have two stores in the final stages of implementation - an autonomous store with Aldi Nord in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and a store with Shufersal in Tel Aviv, Israel. We also have secured contracts for hundreds of stores in the coming years, as previously mentioned, with several stores already in the first stages of implementation. We also have ongoing collaborations with Google Cloud and SAP to help retailers accelerate their digital transformations and support the rapid roll-out of several stores in parallel.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):

    Total 249 words used.

While solutions like Amazon Go rely on building new stores from the ground up, Trigo is one of the only solutions that take an existing store and retrofit it with off-the-shelf cameras and sensors to create a truly modern, digital store. Our solution helps retailers improve both customer experiences in-store as well as provide retailers with the tools to reduce costs, base business decisions on an unbiased view of what's happening in-store, cultivate nimble logistics and open up new pathways to profitable growth. Several of our stores also served as major milestones in the world of frictionless checkout. The Trigo-powered REWE store in Cologne is the first frictionless checkout store in Germany. It is especially impressive given Germany’s rigorous data privacy landscape, which requires computer vision technology companies like Trigo to uphold some of the strictest personal privacy laws and regulations in the world. Leveraging world-class AI, our advanced retail automation platform is able to collect and sort data to deliver an entirely seamless checkout process, without collecting or analyzing biometric or facial recognition data. By opening the store in Germany, with a major German retailer, our solution serves as the gold standard for privacy practices in the category. Another achievement in Germany was our store with Netto Marken-Discount in Munich, which is the first hybrid cashierless discount store in the world. After successfully implementing our technology in major retailers’ stores across Europe, we have recently taken the first steps in our long-term plans to expand into the US.

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):
