Reyada (Arabic for ‘Excellence’) is the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority’s (FCSA) quarterly newsletter. The genesis of publication was a desire to spread awareness and foster a culture within the organization around excellence and leadership. It was also born of a desire to have a communication channel between the Strategy and Future department and the rest of the organization. All stories therefore have a thematic link to excellence and leadership.
The focus of the organization on Excellence and Leadership has been its innovation. Having the newsletter with these themes has raised awareness and united staff employees to the importance of these themes for FCSA’s mission, proving to be an effective tool for driving the organization forward.
The newsletter was launched in in 2017 as the first (and only) organizational newsletter. The publication was initiated as a staff idea, and senior management understood the value of this and fully supported it. At the outset, the publication was launched as a monthly issue, and in 2019 progressed to a quarterly since the beginning of 2019. To date there have been 22 issues of Reyada. All aspects of the content creation, editing and design are done by a small in-house team.
Today, Reyada serves as a strong vehicle of communication among staff. It promotes important company policies and procedures showcases important staff achievements and we believe improves cohesiveness and productivity through its focus on excellence and leadership.
The publication is developed within a week, and features content on excellence at the national and global levels. Other regular sections include:
-Our KPIs highlights the organization’s important performance indicators
-Inspiring Stories showcases the most important success stories, achievements and awards
-Treasure Hunt underscores important information that may be overlooked
-Information Snack A tidbit relating to government leadership
-Reyada Contest a quiz with winners picked for each issue. To date 88 staff have been acknowledged—greatly increasing employee engagement with the publication.
Reyada has contributed to promoting the culture of excellence in the organization. This is demonstrated through the overall strategic performance within the organization. Since the publication’s launch FCSA has won a number of national and international awards. From a baseline of zero awards in 2016, FCSA jumped to 11 awards in 2019. Additionally, the number of innovations in the organization has increased from eight innovations in 2016 to 71 in 2019. The accuracy of indicators Received from departments improved from74% in 2017 to 92% in 2019. This indicates that there is a culture of excellence and leadership being fostered in the organization, and that Reyada is helping the organization cohere around those themes and drive it forward.
