In order to cope with the growing need for home healthcare services and increase in the number of patients registered for the service from the previous year, 11730 in 2019 compared , it is essential to develop affordable and convenient healthcare solutions. Smart devices, which incorporate telemedicine concepts, tele-monitoring devices, real-time data transfer and information technologies can enable continuous and remote monitoring of home care patients at a low cost. The smart home care idea was developed through PHCS Idea funnel that is a part of PHCS innovation system developed in accordance with TS 16555 standard for innovation,
DHA developed the Smart homes care initiative to help home care patients in their comfortable home environments for their routine health assessment or consultation instead of visiting healthcare facilities. This innovative initiative evolved the improvement of the patient journey experience and assist the healthcare specialists to keep track on the overall health condition, progress of the home care patients in real-time and provide live feedback and support to the home care team during their visit to patient’s home.
The need for smart homecare is to :
-To meet increased demand for the service from the community (20% increase to last year same period)
-To improve the accessibility to the service (customer satisfaction on Accessibility was 89%)
-To decrease serving time (Serving Time before Implementation was 2 hours and overall patients’ happiness was 87%)
-To enhance timely documentation & consultation ( documentation required an average of 2 days and eligibility required a social study that took 7 days)
The uniqueness of smart home care project
Being first, of its kind, the Smart Health box emphasizes on wireless medical devices using the smallest and lightest Health box available in the market. It is a boon for nursing team, in addition to comprehensive integration with the EPIC system (electronic medical record). It serves as a uniform solution that is used under various home care scenarios.
The Telehealth platform used in the Smart Homecare Kit utilizes the same telehealth ecosystem that runs Dubai Robodoc. As this same platform is used across the care continuum,DHA ensures that it makes the most of its investments in Technology.
Device Highlights
Smart home care devices work seamlessly with the app. Results sync instantly and automatically through Bluetooth, no device pairing is needed. These devices are designed to help track the results of important health indicators, such as blood pressure, ECG, blood sugar, SPO2 data,compiled within the Bewell Connect app and results are shown color-coded (red, yellow and green) according to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
The health care provider can see their results by day, week, month, or year to easily follow trends over time.
Impact on customers:
-Increased capacity of the service (36 % increase in capacity relative before)
-Improved accessibility to the service (customer satisfaction on accessibility 95%),
-Increased overall patients’ happiness (was 98.5% after implementation)

Clinical results:
-Reduced the Percentage of a newly acquired pressure ulcer from 0.07% to 0.06%
-Reduced the Rate of home care associated CAUTI from 0.004/1000 device days to 0.001/1000 device days
-Reduced the Rate of home care associated skin and soft tissue infection from 2%to 0.3%
-Reduced the Rate of Medication Errors from 2% to 1%
Future of Smart home care
The Smart Health box will evolve on to a portable Hand Held telemedicine station weighing under 300 grams integrating all the medical devices necessary for remote tele-monitoring of patient vitals anywhere and in any circumstances and artificial / Business Intelligence to be incorporated in predicting future needs for home care.
