A CENTURY OF GREATNESSis the story of the country’s first business school, José Rizal College (JRC), founded in 1919 by Vicente Fabella, a 28-year-old Certified Public Account (CPA), the first Filipino to pass the USA CPA board. In the school’s history, two more Fabellas would be at its helm: son Armand who grew the school into what it is today - José RizalUniversity (JRU); and currently, grandson Vincent who has modernized and transformedit into one of the leading educational institutions in the country today. Aninclusive education with an open admission policy for youth from lower income families, continues to be upheld.
The story is told chronologically to capture the different social, political and economical environments during JRU’s colorful lifetime. Period photos lend to the authenticity of the eras. Aerial photos show its expansiveness. Box stories and testimonials from illustrious alumni add human drama to the compelling tale. The book ends with images of the yearlong centennial celebration, which brought JRU leaders, alumni, teachers, students, friendsto the momentous well-planned events.
Like its namesake, national hero José Rizal-himself a paragon of purposeful learning, JRU believes that education “exalts a nation” and “gives luster to the Motherland.”
