The historical reference of this exhibition is that the first imaging carried out on the MRI device produced by Siemens in Erlangen, Germany in 1979 was that of a bell pepper instead of a human.
“Extraordinary moves find their meaning in the gesturality of science and art.” Today, the abovementioned image of the bell pepper is featured in Siemens MedMuseum’s collection in Erlangen, Germany and meets a wide audience from all over the world. In the tracks of the iconic bell pepper, images of plants acquired using medical imaging devices equipped with today’s state-of-the-art technology amaze us by offering an unusual use of imaging.
The exhibition Algorithms and Plants presents the audience with images of numerous plants grown all across Turkey including olives, kiwis, peas, mimosa trees, walnuts acquired on Siemens imaging devices. Having been initiated by an open invitation to radiologists who use Siemens imaging devices in hospitals located across Turkey, a geography blessed with an unmatched flora, this exhibition project resulted in the enthusiastic images acquired by radiology experts. Imaging devices are operated on algorithms, that is, a predetermined path and steps of a process are followed to solve a problem or reach a specific goal.
The exhibition also assumes an important mission: Following the exhibition, works will be available for sale in the form of digital photo prints, the income of which will be used to support the efforts of KAÇUV.(The Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer).
The shooting process combining scientific rigor and artistic creation opens the doors to several optical inquiries for both medical professionals and the audience including the concepts of looking, looking closer, seeing, and seeing beyond.
The project was developed in 2 months. After the idea was founded, We met with an exhibition curatorto structure the exhibition. Curator set up the exhibition concept, name of the artworks, and press releases. After the concept was generated, we as Siemens Healthineers Turkey employees started to communicate with the radiology experts, and invite them to our exhibition as artists. While the imaging process we took their videos and assist in the post-processing to the Radiology experts. Simultaneously PR and Digital agencies worked for PR strategy and Web design. We announce our exhibition first with our CEO’s social media posts, then the press started to publish the news, and the influencers who are popular in art and healthcare share our links on social media.
