Viettel Smart Data System (vSDS), designed following the Self Services BI Trend, is the system visualizing data in form of reports and dynamic dashboards. vSDS is an effective tool that helps gain an overview of business situation, quickly and multi-dimensionally capture changes in production, as well as promptly make strategic decisions.

Dynamic Dashboards: Users can create and arrange charts by themselves, drag and drop them into Dashboards, then link those Dashboards for data presentations.

The system library provides user with over 20 chart types, allows them to customize from basic to complex chart elements. For example: adding sub-axis, hiding vertical axis, creating dynamic threshold and pop-up of chart element detail, customizing chart filter, stretching charts along time and object dimensions, switching multiple charts on the display area ... etc to diversify how Dashboards are presented to user.

Dynamic Reports: Users create reports in Word or Excel format by themselves with a customizable interface, which is beautifully, fast and conveniently designed. Both allow users to design as they desire, flexibly arrange and insert data and charts into reports.

vSDS supports exporting reports and dashboards to Word, Excel, PDF, HTML formats.

Automatic Report: vSDS allows users to manually schedule, select and format reports, as well as send them via email. By which, users can receive automatic daily reports without having to log into the system.

Executing, managing, and data warning: vSDS help CEOs and managers give direct direction or quickly and decisively request information, and run the business.

vSDS also automatically generates alerts to help data specialists control the data to ensure the data reliability.

Data aggregation: vSDS allows synchronizing data from different data sources. By algorithms, users can manually configure complex formulas to aggregate BI data tables.

In 2014, Viettel built and deployed traditional BI system to present data in the form of charts and reports to serve business management and decision making. However, the system has limitations:

-Charts are fixed on the screen and user cannot change content, location, chart type until a new upgrade is available.
-Users depend entirely on the IT team.
-Data update takes a lot of time; it may take 1 - 2 weeks to update all data.
-The cost for developing and maintaining is extremely expensive.

Consequently, although it has been developed and used continuously for 8 years at Viettel Group, the number of users is quite small (approximately 15 users / month). Meanwhile, data quality and reliability are still questioned.

The vSDS system was born to completely overcome the above limitations and improve data quality while providing users with many new features:

-Help users design dashboards without help from IT team.
-Reduce the time to respond to user requests to 1/10 as before.
-Save costs and human resources in system operation and development.
-Diversify data perspectives and increase the number of users served, thereby making decisions more quickly and accurately.
-Provide new features such as customizing charts, sending daily email reports, data alerts, and indicator configuration on user interface.

Since being a proposed idea, vSDS has attracted great attention from leaders and longtime users of the previous system. With those advantages, as soon as the beta version of vSDS was released, many businesses inside and outside Viettel Group wanted to use this system for operating activities in their companies. In Viettel, vSDS is creating a culture of using data for business operation.
