Nomination Title: SAP Everyone's a Teacher
SAP is THE market leader in enterprise application software. Our end-to-end suite of applications and services help customers—of all sizes and across all industries—generate profit, adapt continuously, and make a difference.
Our success relies on the investment we’ve made into our most valuable asset: our people; and, with so many talented and innovative employees, we’re always looking for ways to harness the power of our collective intellect for the benefit of the individual and the organization. Finding the right program or initiative to accomplish this goal, however, is easier said than done.
Fortunately, our Year One Success Team (part of SAP’s sales enablement organization) rose to the challenge and created Everyone’s a Teacher (E1T) –a global program designed to leverage, scale and share the unique knowledge, competencies and skills of our employees for the benefit of all, to help drive the organization’s learning culture and to maximize overall effectiveness.
E1T also allows employee experts to engage in new areas of expertise without having to leave their current role, which has further motivated employee involvement, career development and company- wide knowledge sharing. In fact, E1T is now comparable with many of the organization’s best-known fellowship, rotational and job-shadowing programs.
Everyone’s a Teacher has made a tremendous impact on the organization. By engaging our own, internal experts, E1T has helped build a highly effective faculty of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across all board areas, which has consistently delivered scalable, world-class internal enablement while reducing third party costs.
In addition to significantly boosting employee engagement, satisfaction and the transfer of valuable knowledge, E1T has achieved a variety of important wins for the organization, including:
-400 identified accredited Subject Matter Experts/trainers, coaches supporting execution of global enablement programs.
-Note: In 2019, E1T delivered 1570 sessions of the Virtual Live Classroom training to 4,000 employees. 52% were delivered using internal SMEs, saving 785K USD in training costs.
-4782 hours of training delivered with internal extended faculty team
-Satisfaction rate average of 4.5 out of 5.0
-Decreased cost per learner by 45%
-Availability across all regions (worldwide) and in local languages.
Beyond the numbers, E1T has created an easy-to-use enablement platform that provides insight into individual skills and competencies at the department and company level. This database is connected to our internal Learning Management System, making it easy to manage the entire E1T end-to-end process—from identifying program execution needs (resources), to matching candidates, executing, and evaluating final results (satisfaction).
Lastly, we have implemented a structured recognition process (incl. internal recognition badges) to award SMEs who have consistently supported the program. This recognition framework has played an important role in motivating continued support and readiness among SMEs.
The platform has been key to the success of the program and wasdesigned specifically for the sharing of unique and immediately applicable knowledge from SMEs—a feature unlike any other program within the organization.
As leaders in the Cloud, SAP must adapt to changes in the business landscape more rapidly than the competition—an especially difficult task given the pace of innovation and the impact these changes have on the skill and competency requirements of our employees.
E1T, however, allows us to capitalize on SAP’s growth and ever-changing learning demands, with a unique approach designed to harnesses the expanding diversity, talent and knowledge of our employees.
More broadly, the program has helped us to leverage a unique and highly effective learning culture built upon company-specific and general knowledge, best practices, competencies and skills that give us a unique advantage over the competition and bolster employee satisfaction.
E1T SMEs, coaches, trainers and learners experience each aspect of this mission, as they share / obtain the knowledge, skills, competencies and expertise they need to grow professionally and find success in their roles.
E1T also accelerates the roll-out and enablement of our innovations and solutions portfolio, which also serves to help our customers overcome complexities and capitalize in the Cloud Digital Age.
The program also provides a systematic approach / strategy for building the foundation for readiness and excellence of our workforce to meet SAP’s goals.
Furthermore, by leveraging the E1T database of competencies and skills we can proactively contribute to current and future enablement needs from the business.
These factors combined, have helped drive E1T’s success and set the program apart both for its unique approach to P2P learning and coaching and its impact on the organization.
