Even before the term ‘influencer’ entered the mainstream, we had taste-makers and game-changers. Jaye Foo is both of these, having made waves in the entertainment industry for over 15 years. Working across the UK, Singapore and Korea, Jaye tirelessly strives to empower fellow creatives.
Since January-2020, he has launched three successful businesses, all while continuing his career as a ground-breaking musician and working as creative director of an influencer marketing agency.
Despite a global pandemic, which threatened the livelihood of entertainment moguls and artists everywhere, Jaye still reported an impressive total revenue of over S$40,000 with profits of nearly S$16,000. These are Jaye’s achievements across 2020 and 2021 which made this possible:
Launching ‘The Parlour’, Singapore:
Launched in October-2020, The Parlour – made up of two hubs in downtown Singapore – serves as a safe-haven for the city’s creatives. This innovative ecosystem includes:
-
Pop-up creative workspaces for creative individuals from fashion designers to musicians.
-
Space for exhibitions/pop-up shops, plus a café.
-
An art bar adorned with art displays, also hosting exhibitions/live-events.
-
A recording studio for artists/brands to record and produce music.
-
A music production school, certified by music software company Ableton in January-2021 as an official training centre.
-
A lounge to host creative workshops, also serving as an exhibition space for artists/creatives to showcase their work.
When the pandemic de-railed live events, these venues were a lifeline for creators. The hubs served as a production space for live-streaming events such as the 2021 Asean Music Showcase, which attracted a sizeable audience. Once physical events became possible, Jaye and his team hosted official launches for the lounge and bar, which attracted a full capacity crowd of c.100 people.
Launch of @TheParlourSeoul:
In January-2022, @TheParlourSeoul was added to the @ParlourGlobal collective of international creative spaces. It represents Seoul’s first multi-conceptual creative space, showcasing the work of independent artists. The space is a blank canvas for artists to express themselves, and be inspired. It also boasts a fully equipped jamming and photography studio, as well as a popular events space.
Developing the NFT scene in Singapore
NFT’s are a hot commodity in this day and age. Thus, Jaye brought NFT-enabled displays to The Parlour, creating an innovative NFT gallery. Jaye has been championing local NFT projects, hosting their exhibitions, and NFT investor meet-ups/workshops. This latest initiative has become the go-to for anything NFT related in Singapore. It’s Singapore’s first NFT bar/lounge and has been celebrated in local media as such.
Events (workshops/open-mic nights/meet-ups), regularly attract c.100 attendees.
Launch of Mettaverse
In February-2022, Jaye co-founded the first virtual real estate agency in Singapore: Mettaverse. Jaye and his partners bought up a considerable amount of land in several metaverses, with the aim of helping brands build presence in the metaverse. Naturally, it showcases buildings for companies, but more crucially, it also offers space for pop-ups and events.
Mettaverse also offers music artists a forward-thinking, experimental platform by hosting virtual concerts/festivals, attracting hundreds of attendees. Recent examples include a:
-
Concert featuring a Singaporean rock band, attracting >300 attendees.
-
Fun virtual event in association with Bandwagon, the biggest music publication in Singapore. The Pixel Party was held in March and April, showcasing notable Asian talent in the metaverse.
-
Gig for a popular DJ, which attracted >350 global attendees.
As interest in the Mettaverse has grown, the company is now branching out into brand consultancy. Jaye’s team have been developing and designing NFT collections for brands, with NFT’s leading as the most credible artwork in the metaverse. There’s no doubt that these are impressive accomplishments and Jaye has no plans to slow down. He plans to continue growing these blossoming businesses, breaking new ground in creative spaces for years to come
