Glo Gordon took over as CEO at MATRIXX Software in January 2020. Despite the looming global pandemic, Glo took over at an ideal time for the company. MATRIXX had already
battled its way into a market dominated by legacy giants. The company already had an impressive list of tier one communications service providers (CSPs) and leading digital players as customers. What MATRIXX needed, and why the company sought out Glo as CEO, was to evolve from an R&D start-up into a go-to-market business capable of scaling to dominate a market.
Glo was the ideal candidate because she spent her career working in disruptive industries and helping to scale companies who had successfully navigated the startup journey and were poised for the next phase of growth. She previously worked for Xerox, spending 20 years with the company and increasing her leadership responsibilities before moving on to Oracle, where she spent over 8 years selling software to CSPs before being recruited away to scale growth for startup Jasper Software. After helping to oversee Cisco’s acquisition of Jasper, Glo was looking for her next challenge when she was invited to join MATRIXX Software’s Board of Directors. She helped advise the company for a year and a half before being asked to take over as CEO.
In order to make her transition successful, and to help the team align on the significant growth goals for the company, Glo focused on three priorities: North Star, Raving Fans and Culture.
North Star. When you know what you do best, better than any other company, you can drive an integrated strategy across all facets of the business. This resulted in clear expectations that enabled MATRIXX to add more new customers in 2020 than ever before.
Raving Fans. Glo asked the whole company to read this book the day she started. The MATRIXX business model is built on renewals. References are the company’s biggest asset. Glo reminded the company that its customers’ success is MATRIXX’s success.
Culture. Glo wanted MATRIXX to be a place where people want to work. That required investing in leadership and career development across the organization to maintain connection to the business, which Glo did. As a global company and, specifically as a result of COVID, Glo considered consistent and clear communication essential to manifesting that goal, and she implemented new ways for all employees to have greater transparency, accountability and opportunity.
Since taking over as CEO, MATRIXX [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] 10 new customers, expanded 5 existing relationships with leading telecom operators in their region, announced partnerships with three leading solutions providers - Amazon Web Services, Google and IBM - and completed key new executive hires. The company has also been recognized for Excellence in Innovation in Technology Industries and Innovation in Technology Development for its work with customers in Asia and the Middle East. A testament to the culture of excellence fostered under Glo’s leadership,[REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] employee referrals have consistently accounted for more than 50% of new hires.
What sets Glo apart from other leaders is that she is not afraid of hard work and trying new things. Throughout her career, she has created a legacy of willingness to do the job that no one else wanted to do, which has opened opportunities to expand her capabilities and take on more leadership roles. She has an uncanny ability to surround herself with people who bring varied and who think differently than she does, which allows her to be a more thorough, thoughtful and successful leader.
