    A woman of many firsts, Ms Sukla Mistry was the only girl student from her remote rural village in India who took up the study of Metallurgical Engineering. She emerged as first women Inspection Engineer of Indian Hydrocarbon industry, when she joined IndianOil, India’s flagship energy major in 1987. She is the only Indian woman engineer to be selected for deputation to Emirates National Oil Company, Dubai (2001) for inspection and plant turn-around and subsequently for Qatar Petroleum at South Korea & Qatar for design work and commissioning of USD 300 million Linear Alkaline Benzene Project (2004).

    She is also the first woman in IndianOil to hold the position of Executive Director & Refinery Head, first at Digboi Refinery, Assam, the oldest operating refinery in Asia, then later led 6 MMPTA Barauni Refinery, Bihar in India. Selected by Government of India as Director (Refineries), she is the first woman Functional Director on the IndianOil Board, spearheading operations of nine refineries with a refining capacity of 70.05 MMTPA (1.4 million barrels per day) and mega petrochemical units. With over 35 years of experience, she is playing a lead role in execution of brownfield and greenfield projects, including petrochemical projects.

    The life journey of Ms. Sukla Mistry speaks of the strength and indomitable spirit of a girl student who has risen from hardships and humble circumstances from a remote village in India to emerging as a strong corporate leader in the oil & gas sector of India. She is holding the prestigious position as the first women Functional Director of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., the flagship energy major of India.

    Presently, she is handling business operations of IndianOil refineries, playing a pivotal role in building business processes that are inventive and future ready. Under her leadership, the Corporation is implementing projects worth approx. INR 1.1 Lakh Crore (USD 14 billion) across nine IndianOil Refinery Units. Taking strategic decisions, she is strengthening the green growth agenda of IndianOil with development of natural gas infrastructure; meeting major power requirement of refineries with renewable energy; and potential CCUS projects. One-of-its-kind 2G Ethanol plant which uses agricultural waste and 3G Ethanol plant that uses refinery off-gasses as a feedstock for ethanol production are being set-up along with upcoming green hydrogen projects to energise the COP-21 Indian agenda of net carbon zero.

    Her story is about fighting all odds and overcoming challenges in an industry considered as a male bastion.
