    An employee of TransPerfect for over six years, Ty Trainer worked in client services before transitioning to the AI and Machine Translation (MT) team in 2019. Motivated by his interest in this burgeoning technology and his experience working directly with clients, Ty began to shape his role into one centered on serving as a subject-matter expert in AI and MT during both the presales and post-sales processes to create a seamless experience for customers. Working closely with TransPerfect’s Marketing and Communications team, Ty assists in creating impactful materials such as videos, webpages, e-brochures, spotlight reports, blog posts, webinars, and the occasional podcast episode. These assets are used by sales teams to highlight the benefits of implementing MT for our clients and draw attention to TransPerfect’s experience and expertise in developing and deploying our AI-powered solutions. Beyond supporting the sales process directly, Ty also trains internal sales teams on MT to give them the tools to confidently sell this technology and navigate conversations with clients. Ty also trains newly onboarded clients, performing live demos of the technology and sharing experiences on best practices and keys for success in order to bring greater automation, efficiency, and savings to our clients’ business operations.

    Since July 1, 2020, Ty has assisted both directly and indirectly in the sale of more than six million dollars’ worth of AI and MT services and technology solutions for new and existing clients in an increasingly diverse array of verticals, including the pharma, finance, retail, hospitality, travel, automotive, and legal industries. From the creation of a repository of more than 40 responses to common, AI-specific RFP questions to onboarding over 250 clients to TransPerfect’s MT solutions, Ty’s work in supporting sales teams as a dedicated SME for machine translation has significantly contributed to the growing revenue attributable to this technology. Ty’s passion for building strong relationships with clients and trust in innovative solutions for translation automation has also encouraged more than 50 existing clients to pilot the use of MT and, in doing so, enabled salespeople to upsell different MT-based technologies based on positive pilot results. 

    Ty has conducted nearly 20 hours of training sessions for hundreds of sales representatives based in the US, LATAM, EMEA, and APAC across several sales verticals. He has also produced one video, four webpages, eight e-brochures, three long-form spotlight reports, three blog posts, three webinars, and one podcast episode to communicate the benefits of machine translation to our clients and to equip salespeople to do the same. Further, Ty has participated in TransPerfect’s annual GlobalLink NEXT technology conference, co-hosting one session in our 2021 online edition and hosting two and three sessions at the US and EMEA editions of the 2022 conference, respectively.

    Ty’s achievements in supporting salespeople as an SME are significant because of the approach he applies to turn the abstract, often elusive idea of MT into real solutions with tangible results for businesses. By harnessing the excitement around buzzwords like AI, Ty supports salespeople in demystifying these concepts to build compelling proposals that are tailored to our clients’ specific needs. In this way, Ty’s work distinguishes itself from what other MT technology and solutions providers are doing. Instead of opting for a transactional attitude that treats MT like a plug-in while ignoring potential risks, Ty has developed a consultative, program-based approach to implementing MT centered on fully understanding our clients’ business goals, finding the best solution to meet those goals, and establishing KPIs to measure success. This is best exemplified by the recent major implementation of MT services and technology for regulatory affairs departments at two top-10 pharma companies, both of which sought to bring the innovation of AI and MT to affect a digital transformation in translation operations at their organizations. Through consultation with all relevant stakeholders – from steering committee members, regulatory operations directors, regional leads and individual affiliates – Ty implemented custom MT solutions for each organization that alleviated the challenges of manual tasks unique to regulatory translations through automation and AI. The success of the initial pilots for these solutions enabled our sales teams to negotiate and close global rollouts of MT technology for over 500 users across both companies.
