Nomination Title: Lisa Utzschneider
A true pioneer in her industry, Lisa Utzschneider has spent over two decades building and growing massive digital advertising businesses at Microsoft, Amazon, and Yahoo. Now, two years after joining Integral Ad Science (IAS) as CEO, she has transformed the business and recently led the digital media quality company through a successful IPO.
Under Lisa’s leadership, IAS established itself as a global adtech powerhouse with 600+ employees, activating its technology in 111 countries, and working with 2,000+ customers including Disney, Nestle, Hulu, and Verizon.
Prior to IAS, Lisa was Chief Revenue Officer at Yahoo, where she oversaw the company’s global sales organization and provided solutions for advertisers worldwide, until the Verizon acquisition in 2017.
Previously, Lisa was Amazon’s Vice President of Global Advertising Sales, where she developed the company’s global advertising business through product, marketing, sales, and operations strategies, driving consistent revenue growth. Before Amazon, Lisa spent 10 years at Microsoft culminating in her role as General Manager of the national sales and service teams, where she focused on driving revenue for the company’s top online advertising accounts.
Lisa serves as a board member for the Ad Council, Bates College, and Greenwich Academy.
At IAS, Lisa focuses her team on bringing greater media quality and transparency to digital advertising. She helped set the company’s core values of “We Are One Team” and “We Are Customer Obsessed.” Lisa also honed the company’s mission to be the global benchmark for trust and transparency in digital media quality for leading brands, publishers, and platforms. Under Lisa’s leadership, IAS has expanded its product innovation and data-driven insights, closed two key acquisitions, become a public company, and continued to foster a strong company culture.
Since 2019, Lisa also guided the IAS team through two acquisitions on Admantx, expanding the company’s contextual offerings, and Amino Payments, making the Total Visibility product an IAS brand that brings greater transparency to programmatic buying and supply path optimization.
Lisa successfully led IAS through the pandemic, transition to a remote work environment, and still continues to focus on overall business growth. To ensure transparency and collaboration, Lisa instituted regular live global Town Halls to provide important updates on wins and progress across IAS, while creating a forum to answer tough questions from employees. She also launched a Fitbit Challenge for IAS employees to step their way towards healthy habits while working from home. Lisa also addressed the Black Lives Matter protests head-on by mandating unconscious bias training, establishing an employee match program for social justice organization donations, and recognizing Juneteenth as a company holiday. She has also been a mentor and supporter of elevating more women to leadership positions across industries.
Digital ad spending is expected to reach $526B by 2024. The need for data-driven technology that addresses ad fraud, viewability, and brand safety and suitability risks is critical to the wider industry. Under Lisa’s tremendous leadership, IAS helps advertisers, publishers, and platforms achieve greater accountability and transparency in a complex landscape. IAS helps make every impression count by preventing fraudulent, unsafe, and unseen ads, working with 35% of the top 150 US advertisers. With Lisa as CEO, IAS’s revenue reached $240.6 million in 2020.
Lisa has successfully positioned IAS at the forefront of innovation when it comes to combating ad fraud and championing brand safety and suitability. In 2020, IAS was the first digital ad verification company to release an automated tag with Google that reduced a multi-day process to an activation that can be completed in seconds. Lisa also ensured IAS completed rigorous evaluations required to achieve recertification for TAG's Certified Against Fraud, Certified Against Piracy, and Brand Safety Certified Programs.
Lisa is a strong advocate for elevating women to leadership positions because “if you can’t see her, you can’t be her.” Lisa has invested in mentoring and coaching both women and men at IAS and across the wider industry to enhance their leadership skills and ultimately earn much-deserved promotions
