BAE Systems Electronic Systems (ES) is pioneering inventions that provide our customers with world-class capabilities, defend our national security, protect our service members, and sustain the prosperity of our communities and our planet. We are driven by our missions: We Protect Those Who Protect Us® and We Innovate for Those Who Move the World ™. The ES Community Investment (CI) giving mission strategically aligns with our business mission to help achieve optimal business and social impact.
The ES Community Investment team created the "We're All In" employee engagement campaign in 2020 to inspire our employees to join us in going “All In” to drive positive impact on our three key CI mission areas: innovating for veterans, inspiring students, and investing in our communities. The campaign inspired the launch of All In Month, the company’s first-ever month of volunteer service (September 2024). The goal was to build upon the campaign, adding another facet to increase employee engagement and engender pride and camaraderie.
To make All In Month a success, the team engaged with stakeholders, leaders, and other internal groups to plan volunteer projects that accommodated the schedules and interests of our entire workforce, including remote, hybrid, and on-site employees. We engaged manufacturing and corporate employees through on-site projects; offered virtual projects for remote workers; and planned in-person projects at nonprofits in our communities. We also worked with managers to plan customized projects that fostered team-building among their employees. Existing partnerships with many of our annual nonprofit grantees helped bring these projects to life, strengthening relationships and deepening impact on the people the organizations serve through our funding and our employees’ time and talents.
For volunteer recruitment, effective communication was key. We developed a comprehensive internal and external communications plan that included brand identity and message development, digital signage, targeted emails, newsletters, intranet articles, social media, media relations, and leadership communications to help raise awareness and inspire participation.
We exceeded all goals set before the initiative: 550 employees from 24 BAE Systems offices volunteered over 1,000 hours on 40+ projects. Forty nonprofits benefited from the projects. This effort deepened employee connection with the company culture and their communities, increasing the number of employee volunteers by 30% in 2024 (compared to 2023).
Executive leadership recognized the impact of All In Month. The ES President highlighted the achievement during a meeting with all People Managers. At the corporate level, our CEO mentioned it as a key achievement in his year-end message to all employees.
All In Month demonstrated the collective power of our employees as a driving force behind making a difference in our U.S. and UK communities. As we look to the future, BAE Systems remains committed to continuing to innovate its approach to community investment and social responsibility. Through giving back to those who protect us, inspiring the next generation of innovators, and investing in our communities, we aim to make a larger and lasting impact on the world around us.
