Newberry Tanks decided to go a little farther trying to meet their customer’s needs while improving safety with a rugged new steel skid tank that surpasses those of competitors. The tank:

-Meets UL-142 specification for Aboveground Storage of Flammable and Combustible liquids
-Available double-wall or single-wall construction for heavy duty aboveground storage
-Has skids that enablethe tank to be moved by a forklift, rather than a crane, eliminating the need to drag the tank when a heavy-duty piece of equipment is not available.

The benefits are many. First and foremost, the tank vastly improves safety in the workplace. Accidents can occur even when the tank is maneuvered according to safety guidelines. But unlike other skid tanks, chains are not required to maneuver Newberry’s. Additionally, the full skids balance the tank evenly while it is in motion, eliminating the “swing” that can injure or even kill a crew member involved in spotting the tank while it is being moved. Newberry’s tank does not require spotters, thanks to the balanced design and can be manipulated solely by a forklift operator. The “no swing” design also protects nearby equipment from risk of damage during transfer.

The tank also saves many customers thousands of dollars per year, as more than 90% of customers that need such tanks own a forklift, while very few own a crane. Hiring a crane and crew also affects customers’ tight production schedules, as work is sometimes forestalled waiting on a subcontractor to move a tank.

But Newberry went the extra mile to ensure safety even when the tank is not used according to guidelines. Knowing there would still be a few customers who might forgo a forklift when moving a tank, they added a small pull for dragging, and cutouts to ensure that if the tank is lifted on its side (again, even though it is not supposed to be) the tank will not roll.

Thanks to Newberry’s lean manufacturing techniques that minimize waste in resources, Newberry can transfer those savings on to customers and improve the safety for all: for employees, equipment, and our environment.
