According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide. The majority of the fatalities occur due to the lack of awareness on early detection and barriers to health services.
The VUMI® campaign sought to educate and inform women across the globe, regardless if they are or not agents, insureds or employees of the company about breast cancer prevention methods. The campaign highlighted the importance that self-examination plays in beating the disease and it showcased different ways on how to perform a self -examination at home.
Our campaign motto was “Let's Go Hand in Hand”, which not only subtly underscored the importance of self-examination, but also addressed the myths and truth about mammography and ultra-sounds. Two key screening exams that are crucial in beating the disease. In addition the campaign also reinforced that beating cancer is a team effort in which physicians, nurses, family and friends, all play a key role and go hand in hand with the patient in the fight.
“Let's Go Hand in Hand” campaign's objective was to bring prevention to the forefront of people’s minds. All elements were developed in English and Spanish, some in Portuguese, as well.
During the entire month, we posted new content daily on the website and social media about how to perform a self-exam, common methods for early detection, some warning signs of the disease, and more.
We created a series of videos that aimed to educate and support the fight. We started with a video showcasing VUMI’s women team members, speaking about the importance of early detection, and breast cancer’s impact worldwide. We shared this video via e-mail to our agent database and via the social networks of our insured community. We also showecased a video how to peform a self examination and also created an educational video in which a doctor showed the audience which machines that are used to perform a mammography and ultra sounds. The idea was to educate women that the screening exams are not painful and could save your life.
We also organized two online conferences. The first one focused on Myths and Realities of Breast Cancer" presented by Dr. Mecker Moeller, an internationally recognized surgical oncologist and researcher. . The second one was ”How Mammography is Performed,” presented by Dr. María Auxiliadora Villamar, Surgeon and Mastologist.
Finally, we brought our campaign “home.” VUMI® offered free mammograms to our colleagues and agents throughout Latin America.
Many insureds and agents viewed the campaign and participated in our online seminars.
Our opening video had more than 2,500 views. Our video about the exclusive networks our insureds can turn to for their cancer treatment had more than 400 views. Our daily campaign posts also had hundreds of views and frequent shares. More than 1,000 people participated in our webinars.
About 400+ agents and colleagues in Latin America had free mammograms.
