Ken Crutchfield is Vice President and General Manager of Legal Markets at Wolters Kluwer Legal and Regulatory U.S. and has been with the company for nearly three years. Leading the Legal Markets Group, he is responsible for setting the vision and strategic approach with a focus on developing leading digital products. The Legal Markets Group within Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S. provides legal professionals across a wide range of markets with expert content and analysis, in addition to leading workflow solutions.

With more than three decades of professional experience, Crutchfield excels at general management, strategy, strategic marketing, innovation, developing and launching new products, scaling and growing businesses profitably, business transformation, and much more. Throughout his career, he has successfully led the growth of multiple businesses in varying industries, including tax & accounting, and most notably, legal.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, less than a year after starting his new role at a new company, Crutchfield worked alongside his team to ensure smooth operations and continued success in product developments and launches. At a time of need and to support corporate counsel and other legal professionals navigating the return of employees to offices across the country, Crutchfield and his team launched a brand new Smart ChartTM covering COVID-19 topics. Conceived of and launched in days, the Wolters Kluwer State & Federal Compare Smart Chart™ provided up-to-date information on government actions in response to COVID-19 to areas of coverage that were critical to keeping companies in compliance with rapidly changing Covid mandates and helped companies keep their employees safe.

Effectively guiding his team, Crutchfield led the announcement of Wolters Kluwer’s Cheetah™ for Corporate Counsel, a powerful solution designed to help users meet and exceed the ever-increasing demands of corporate legal departments by providing a wide range of content and tools in a single package, making it the only offering on the market with such a breadth of resources at a predictable price point. Additionally, he led the development of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to allow users to access deep domain expertise seamlessly to provide actionable content and a more efficient workflow in 3rd party systems like Sharepoint or practice management systems.

Further, to keep with demand and the constant-changing landscape, Crutchfield managed the launch of a new and expanded version of Corporate Counsel Profiler in May 2021 which provided law firm practitioners with a wide range of information to search and find corporate counsels through an easy-to-use, searchable platform.

Most recently, Crutchfield spearheaded the launch of Wolters Kluwer’s VitalLaw, the new and expanded platform formerly known as Cheetah, which features a new dashboard inclusive of comprehensive federal and state laws and regulations for all 50 states, in addition to solutions that enrich the entire legal process, actionable information, and intelligent tools. Crutchfield ensured the latest launch brought deep impact to customers’ organizations and clients, included empowering digital solutions, provided more consistent and current updating of laws and regulations, and more.

  4. In bullet-list form, provide a brief summary of up to ten (10) of the chief accomplishments of the nominee(s) since January 1 2020. This is required whether you are submitting a video or an essay:
    • Crutchfield spearheaded the pre- and post-launch of VitalLaw, Wolters Kluwer’s new and expanded platform, with the goal to provide more comprehensive support for legal professionals to gain actionable insights and enable a streamlined workflow at the point of need.
    • Crutchfield led the launch of Wolters Kluwer’s brand new Smart ChartTM and the updated back to office Smart Chart, a resource that provided legal professionals with the necessary tools to advise their organizations on how to open businesses back up safely while ensuring compliance with law.
    • Crutchfield’s Application Programming Interface (API) launched as an enhancement to make it possible for law firms and other customers to access Wolters Kluwer's content from its award-winning Cheetah™ platform more quickly and efficiently.
    • Although the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing challenges for legal professionals were in full swing, Crutchfield successfully led the launch of Cheetah™ for Corporate Counsel, providing corporate counsel professionals with the content and tools to make more effective business decisions.
    • Alongside his team, Crutchfield developed and launched the enhanced Corporate Counsel Profiler solution which included expanded coverage, leveraged analytics to find corporate counsel information, and offered new features to enable more effective business development for law firms.
