Established in 1967, Woven Metal Products (WMP) is a state-of-the-art fabrication facility and solutions provider, known worldwide for expertise in fabricating / manufacturing reactor and tower internals and custom fabrication work across multiple industries. WMP’s CEO Russell Hillenburg is the third-generation operator of this family-run business, following his grandfather and father.

Based outside Houston, WMP serves domestic and international partners with a strategic purpose: reliable quality, partnership attitude and attention to detail. Its ISO-9001-certified, modern facility is designed for producing results, with 125,000 square feet of shop space on 85 acres. The WMP shop features 26 feet under the hook, accommodating 30 tons or more. The company regularly reinvests in the newest equipment, including robotic tools, to improve production accuracy and add fabrication capacity.

WMP has a strong commitment to research and development and the latest technological advancements in its field. We frequently work with licensors and engineers to develop the best designs for process internals. WMP holds several patents for both improving existing designs and creating entirely new ones. WMP fabricates within the tightest tolerances in the industry and maintains one of the largest inventories of in-stock materials globally for certain products for the industries served.

WMP is continuing to expand its customer base into new industries and geographies beyond the U.S. We’ve grown our business, providing reactor and tower internals and custom fabrication services to customers globally. Our growth strategy and achievements include ensuring our manufacturing and fabrication facilities are equipped with the latest technologies and maximizing our marketing and communications with customers to reach the right markets.

In early 2023, we brought several new pieces of equipment online after completing a remodel of our shop. We added an automated laser, a robotic welding arm and other equipment to the range of existing computer numerical control (CNC) machines. WMP’s CNC team is trained to program and run multiple machines for maximum productivity 24 hours a day, seven days a week when needed for tight deadlines.

To better serve customers, in 2023, we revamped our branding and website to better reflect our product offerings. WMP has traditionally served the oil, gas, refining, and chemicals industries, but its products and services also extend to other applications. The new website reflects this expansion for sectors like renewable energy, architectural, electrical, waste & water, and more.

In addition to these successes, we continue to grow Woven Together, our community engagement program designed to grow the future manufacturing and fabrication workforce. In 2023 and 2024, WMP awarded scholarships for welding training and hosted more than 250 students across multiple shop tours, introducing them to career possibilities in welding and fabrication.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):

Not just a supplier but also a solutions provider, WMP stands out in its industry for its innovation and collaboration with customers to overcome challenges.

With an expanded workspace and new equipment, WMP handles most manufacturing and fabrication in-house, resulting in faster turnaround times for industries that need to be back online as quickly as possible.

Our long-standing customer relationships include some of the biggest names in the oil and gas and petrochemicals industries, from Phillips 66 and ExxonMobil to HF Sinclair and Lyondell.

However, our approach to service means treating all customers the same. We take a different approach to managing quotes and implementation than many of our competitors, with no engineering fee in our quote process. Instead of just fabricating a replacement product, our team meets with customers to understand the larger situation and make recommendations for more efficiency and cost-effectiveness. We use a white glove approach to delivery and installation, giving customers a level of service for which they keep coming back.

For nearly 60 years, WMP has kept our business in the family, allowing us to focus on what’s best for the company and its future. This has enabled us to hire the right people and train them to reach their full potential. The Houston Business Journal recognized this business approach by awarding WMP the 2023 Family-Owned Business Award, while the Baylor Impact Awards named WMP the 2023 Texas Family Business of the Year.
