Epirus is a technology company revolutionizing power in the defense and commercial sectors. We have achieved unparalleled control over power with our patent-protected hardware and software – enabling us to improve performance or drive efficiency. This technology could address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION].
This SmartPower technology approach was conceived in 2018 in tandem with the development of our directed energy systems. In order to manage solid-state, software-defined high-power microwave technology and deliver unmatched counter-electronics effects, a new power paradigm was required, since traditional approaches predate the emergence of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Thus – we developed the SmartPower technology platform to specifically address the most challenging high-power applications of today, with AI and ML at the core. We had the advantage of rethinking every layer in the value chain: from chips and circuit boards; to [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] sense-and-control algorithms; to applications software and systems integrations. Where the appropriate technology did not exist, we invented it.
- Which will you submit for your nomination in this category, a video of up to five (5) minutes in length about the nominated organization's customer satisfaction achievements since the beginning of 2020, OR written answers to the questions? (Choose one):
Written answers to the questions
- If you are submitting a video of up to five (5) minutes in length, provide the URL of the nominated video here, OR attach it to your entry via the "Add Attachments, Videos, or Links to This Entry" link above, through which you may also upload a copy of your video:
- If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the organization's achievements since the beginning of 2020 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

In December 2020, we unveiled Marr’s Law, a breakthrough discovery takes Moore’s Law further. Marr’s Law identifies an exponential trend in power output via the use of Gallium Nitride semiconductors for power electronics. More specifically, Epirus discovered that power density of these solid-state devices doubles about every 20 months – enabling new applications for power electronics.
And the industry is already taking note. [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] Epirus was [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] chosen for DARPAʼs WARDEN RANGER program in December 2021 to develop algorithms, AI-based models and source code that accurately and rapidly predict electromagnetic and radio-frequency waveform propagation. Epirus’ solution is extendable, modular and designed to run off commercially available computers to increase accessibility for end users. In addition to use cases for the U.S. Department of Defense, the technology presents potential commercialization opportunities [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION]. Epirus’ findings will benefit community stakeholders via the creation of a continuous information-sharing mechanism to quickly transition the technology to other government and commercial applications.
- If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):

Epirus’ discovery that power density of these solid-state devices doubles about every 20 months enables new applications for power electronics. The company’s first power output device had sufficient power density to make commercial electromagnetic pulse feasible – something that would have not been possible even five years ago. And this will only continue to expand possibilities in years to come. The electromagnetic pulse “feasibility region” is now open for innovation – not only for Epirus, but also for other companies and industries now that this phenomenon has been discovered.
Epirus’ SmartPower modules can be configured to support a range of solutions across a wide spectrum of industries seeking AI-enabled power and energy management efficiencies and real-time control capabilities. The SmartPower technology stack features extensible power management elements that can be applied across multiple domains: from counter-electronics and counter-UAS systems, to vehicle stop and vessel stop programs, [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] to compact expeditionary power and soldier power initiatives, to communications infrastructure and Energy 4.0 applications.
When deployed with high-voltage Gallium Nitride (GaN) pulsed power amplifiers, Epirus’ SmartPower solutions enable high peak power output and unprecedented performance characteristics. When used for RF devices, SmartPower-enhanced semiconductors vastly improve system energy efficiency to make devices operate smoother and last longer.
- Optional: Reference here any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and explain how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):
