The Cysterwigs journey began when expert wig designer, Heather Hershey, began reviewing synthetic medical hair loss wigs 13 years ago. As a woman with PCOS and alopecia, she ran into many of the problems most wig-wearers face. She had a hard time finding wigs that were comfortable, practical, and looked good. She and owner John Woodall started Cysterwigs, an online retail wig shop catering to a variety of hair loss needs without skimping on style and personality. The goal of Cysterwigs is to create an inclusive environment that allows wig-wearers to view wigs as a tool for creative self-expression – not a means to cover up. The brand focuses on humor, authenticity, and creativity to promote a positive, empowering experience for customers who are facing medical hair loss.
Cysterwigs fosters its fun-loving community through active engagement with her customer through her social media and popular YouTube channel with 27.2K subscribers. Cysterwigs is a retail shop featuring already popular wigs brands, but Heather also designs and creates unique wigs based on feedback and requests from her audience as a way of ensuring her audience is heard and has access to the styles, cuts, and colors they want.

Since the beginning of 2020, Cysterwigs has had multiple successful product line launches. The CysterWigs Limited was launched in 2020 as a line of stylish wigs that take comfort into account. It was a heat-friendly line designed with permanent styles to eliminate styling time. The wigs have a built-in felt in the adjustable cap to ensure comfort for the wig-wearer.
The Wigs Forever Collection, another recent product release in 2021, is made from premium, silky regular Kanekalon synthetic hair. This line is not heat-friendly but has already been designed with a style that lasts without the need for curling irons, straighteners, crimpers, or any other hot tools. A soft premium felt is added around the cap's perimeter for all-day wearability and durability, which adjusts for petite to larger-size heads. CysterWigs sold 3,787 units of its exclusive brands - both of which are registered trademarks - and generated $374,860 in sales after taxes, discounts, and COGS. The return rate of the two brands is 9%, which is less than half of the overall industry average, which is around 20-22%. That is just for the two exclusive brands and does not include sales figures for every brand the store carries

Cysterwigs aims to make medical wigs available at compassionate pricing. They’ve taken data from the best-selling wigs in the fashion and medical parts of the industry and used that intel to create products that provide the best of both, with smart compromises that allow them to present these at a lower cost than competitors in medical wigs. Cysterwigs also provides high-end toppers, hair care products, and accessories.
I own two brands (CysterWigs Limited in 2020 and Wigs Forever in 2021 both of which are registered trademarks®) and generated $374,860.69 in sales after taxes, discounts, and COGS, with a gross of: $499,209.65 I sold a total of 3,787 units of my own brands in 2021, excluding returns.
2021 numbers for just the Wigs Forever line: 935 units (excluding returns), $140,115.34 gross, $100,118.84 after COGS, etc. I'm also very proud of our return rate on the two brands. It's about 9%, which is less than half the overall industry average, which hovers around 20 - 22%.
