With more than 20 years of experience and over 1,200 patents for imaging, computer vision, AI or ML compression, Xperi invents, develops, and delivers technologies that enable extraordinary experiences. Xperi has been in the automotive tech market, working with OEMS for 20 years. Its DTS AutoSense™ comprises occupancy and driver monitoring systems (OMS & DMS) implemented at the edge, and is the world’s first occupancy monitoring solution to be designed into passenger vehicles. The technology is created for the US and global market, and is Euro NCAP-ready. DTS is already working with European Union [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] technical groups who are working towards NCAP 2023 and 2025 requirements. Xperi was identified as one of the top 5 for Driver Monitoring System Market Share by 2026, as reported at EE Times. Through a corporate R & D team that delivers advanced safety and entertainment solutions, Xperi has the longevity and global support to meet the needs of any car company, into the future.

  4. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the organization's achievements since the beginning of 2020 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

    Total 201 words used.

With more than 20 design wins from four OEM brands, DTS AutoSense driver monitoring has been in production in vehicles since 2019 and occupancy monitoring since 2021, with more than 1 billion kilometers driven. In 2021, DTS AutoSense became the world’s first occupancy monitoring solution to be designed into passenger vehicles. Meanwhile, Xperi engineers were developing the world’s first in-cabin monitoring technologies on a neuromorphic vision system, enabling better low light performance for driver monitoring features as well as never-before-seen capabilities such as saccadic eye movement or micro-expressions, crucial next steps in the next-generation in-cabin experiences. In January 2022 Xperi launched its revolutionary single camera solution for DTS AutoSense which, unlike other solutions, uses a single camera, supported by machine learning to understand and analyze, in real time, the physical [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] states of ALL passengers, regardless of position or occlusion (eyewear, scarfs, masks, facial hair). The new solution improves in-cabin safety, comfort and security and enables enhanced driver and occupancy sensing functionality with a single camera, all while lowering system level integration, calibration and installation costs. Recently, the team reached an important industry milestone by achieving A-SPICE certification. Xperi continues to see progress in their customer pipeline for the technology.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):

    Total 250 words used.

Increasing vehicle automation makes in-cabin sensing technology critical because it can identify everything from passenger and driver behavior and state to emergencies, attentiveness, and more. Distracted driving/vehicle safety concerns have spurred actions globally to encourage automakers’ implementation of driver/occupancy sensing systems, including the U.S. Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, U.S. Hot Cars Act and Euro NCAP.

Unlike any other solution built into vehicles, DTS AutoSense enables occupant and driver sensing functionality with a single camera, which lowers system level integration, calibration and installation costs. Today, most solutions offering in-cabin sensing use a camera focused solely on the driver, or need a second camera to focus on everything but the driver, with the potential for a complicated and onerous implementation. With DTS AutoSense’s single-camera solution, running DMS and OMS from a rearview mirror, a much broader context is enabled. The same or even higher level of performance for several safety and UX features can be achieved. Using various neural network-based algorithms for analysis, DTS AutoSense enables a holistic in-cabin sensing system allowing for more behavioral context. For example, it can detect unsafe behavior and issue an alert. This technology can also provide personalized experiences: music, lighting schemes, seat adjustments, and more, all based on passenger ID/location/behavior and activity. Imagine having a playlist selected based on your mood as detected through activity and analysis! Although DTS AutoSense is principally designed to save lives, the technology has far-reaching implications that can enable a better, more personalized experience for today-and tomorrow’s vehicles

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):

    Total 143 words used.

The included video link demonstrates how the DTS AutoSense Driver and Occupant Monitoring System works, and showcases the capabilities of single camera placement. Most vehicles that offer driver sensing today use a camera focused solely on the driver but, increasingly, the ability to sense the rest of the cabin and its occupants has become critical and an important safety requirement moving forward. Most other solutions need a second camera to focus on everything but the driver, with the potential for a complicated and onerous implementation. DTS AutoSense Single Camera Driver and Occupancy Monitoring solves this challenge. This pioneering single camera technology is so significant: it provides automakers with a cost-effective, quality-centric, easy-to-integrate system that senses and understands the entire cabin.  Also included in this section are links to various press releases announcing DTS AutoSense milestones, achievements, OEM design wins, and recently developed features.
