Sealand – A Maersk Company, headquartered in Florida, was born and bred to service people and relationships. Working with businesses throughout the Americas, the company is a local integrator of logistics, aiming to make shipping more efficient through innovative ocean transport, inland, supply chain and digital solutions*.
In 2015, the company implemented a transformational community program that would be led by leaders (employees) at the grassroots*. It engaged proactively with employees and non-profits to deliver inclusive Quality Education, Decent Work, and Climate Action programs through long-term goal-directed partnerships, in granular alignment with 3 UN SDGs*. By 2022, 82 leaders had developed in the program that counts 15 long-term partnerships throughout the Americas today*.
Commitment by Sealand’s management team has been unwavering. Entrenched in the company’s core culture, the program was sustained during a serious 2017 cyber-attack on the company and grew during this pandemic. Employees already involved with their communities further heightened their own contributions during the coronavirus crisis.
As The Collaboration Vector Inc. and Sealand’s community program implementation partner, it’s a privilege to pay tribute to this company, its employees, leaders, and impactful non-profit partners, for the robust community program built and the impact delivered during the pandemic.
- If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Outline the organization's achievements since the beginning of 2020 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

Sealand’s community program had a “head-start” when the pandemic hit. As a result of the company’s long-term approach to community partnerships, strong pre-existing relationships were in place, ready to pivot. The company did not have to make decisions about who or how to help in the community. Support continued seamlessly for communities already known to Sealand as objectives were reset to attend to immediate and fluctuating needs.
One by one, the partnerships shifted collective resources, both in terms of funds and of volunteer time, to help solve immediate problems. By Q3 2020, 14 of 15 partnerships had adapted and virtual volunteering was well underway, albeit in a non-traditional sense.
Supported by Sealand leaders in Colombia for example, non-profit partner PAPORTI set up a temporary food distribution center that would provide daily groceries to street vendor families, all of whom were out of work during quarantine*. Children received devices, reading glasses, tutoring, spiritual, socio-emotional support, and access to medical care.
In Ecuador, employees implemented a 3-fold plan of vocational training, coaching by employees, and well-being sessions to support girls and teens in becoming independent women of the future. Virtual coaching was energetic and creative with each session prepared by one or a team of employees. Teams shared valuable resources to accompany sessions including Excel training, brain yoga, motivational sessions, career search and much more.
Each of Sealand’s partnerships has its own unique story to tell of how leaders and non-profits adapted to support communities meaningfully, during a time of greatest need.
- If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 250 words):
